With sotra.app, the WITAJ Language Centre has developed the first Sorbian-German translation programme. It contributes to keeping the Sorbian language visible and vibrant in the digital sphere.
The WITAJ Language Centre developed the first Sorbian–German translation programme, sotra. Since 2021 it has offered digital translations for Upper Sorbian, and since 2022 also for Lower Sorbian, available via web browser or the sotra.app. Translation into Czech is currently under development.
The project, funded by the Foundation for the Sorbian People, was launched in 2019 to make it easier for Sorbian learners and native speakers alike to write and understand texts. The sotra programme is based on an extensive bilingual corpus that reflects everyday media and academic language use.
