As Chair of the Domowina, Dawid Statnik is deeply committed to shaping the future of the Sorbian people. His engagement brings together individuals, institutions and political actors, always with the aim of strengthening and enhancing the visibility of the Sorbian language, culture and identity.

Dawid Statnik has led the Domowina – Zwězk Łužyskich Serbow | Zwjazk Łužiskich Serbow | Bund Lausitzer Sorben for many years and, as Chair, has played a decisive role in shaping the organisation’s strategic direction. In his work, he combines tradition, political engagement and the vision of a modern and vibrant Sorbian society.

He describes his personal understanding of his role in clear terms:

„Sym Serb a je mi wutrobita naležnosć, so za přichod našeho ludu zasadźować – zhromadnje z našimi čłonami, ze zamołwitymi stata a druhimi organizacijemi kaž tež w politiskich gremijach.“

“As a Sorb, it is a matter close to my heart to work for the future of our people – together with our members, the state and other organisations, as well as in political bodies.”

As the legal representative of the Domowina, he is responsible for implementing the resolutions of the Main Assembly and the Federal Executive Board and ensures that the organisation’s strategic objectives are consistently pursued. He chairs the meetings of the Federal Executive Board, works in close coordination with the Chief Executive, and regularly meets with the chairs of member associations as well as representatives of Sorbian institutions.

At federal and state level, Dawid Statnik represents the interests of the Sorbs in key bodies, including the Minority Council, the Advisory Committee of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, and various committees of the Domowina. He also serves as Deputy Chair of the Supervisory Board of KRABAT-Mühle Schwarzkollm gGmbH and as Chair of the Assembly of the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM).

In addition to his official duties, Dawid Statnik is widely engaged on a voluntary basis – including in the Regional Association “Michał Hórnik”, the Sorbian Artists’ Association, the Sorbian School Association and the Cyril and Methodius Association. As Chair of the Council for Sorbian Affairs of the Free State of Saxony and as a member of the Bautzen District Council, he actively advocates for the cultural and political participation of the Sorbs.

Through his work, Dawid Statnik represents a Domowina that strengthens the Sorbian language, expands cultural spaces and confidently advances the interests of the Sorbian people into the future.
