Service Office for the Sorbian Language in Municipal Affairs
The Service Office for the Sorbian Language supports towns and municipalities within the Sorbian settlement area of Saxony. It offers free translation services and advisory support and assists in strengthening bilingualism in public life – for example in street signage, building designations and the development of Sorbian technical terminology.
The Domowina is the responsible body for the Service Office for the Sorbian Language in Municipal Affairs.
Domowina is the as lead organisation / project implementer of the Service Office for the Sorbian Language in Municipal Affairs in Wojerecy | Hoyerswerda. This office, launched through the competition “Language-Friendly Municipality – the Sorbian Language Lives”, provides free translation and advisory services to towns and municipalities in the Sorbian settlement area of Saxony.
Through the work of its two staff members, bilingualism in the region is being actively promoted – for example, through bilingual street and public building signage, as well as the development of Sorbian terminology for official use. The office is funded by the Free State of Saxony.
Here you will find examples of bilingual publications for which the Service Office can support towns and municipalities. A key principle is that both languages are displayed in equal font size and visibility.
Whether business cards, official gazettes or websites – bilingual design strengthens the visibility and equal status of the Sorbian language in everyday life.

When video content is displayed, the user’s IP address and further browser-related information are transmitted to Google. When videos are embedded using enhanced privacy mode, no additional personal data is processed beyond this. Further information is transmitted to Google only when you actively click to play the video. If you are logged into YouTube at the time, Google assigns this information to your user account.
