Education and Knowledge

The Domowina is committed to Sorbian education in Lower and Upper Lusatia by connecting stakeholders and making the concerns of the Sorbian people visible. It serves as a central point of contact for political actors, educational institutions and the wider public. The aim is to establish reliable foundations for sustainable educational pathways.

The main focus of the Domowina’s civic engagement is the promotion and, in part, the transmission of the Sorbian language, culture and history throughout Lusatia. This also includes fostering knowledge about the Sorbs in Germany. The Domowina is represented in various bodies and brings the concerns of Sorbian education into these forums.

The Domowina serves as a point of contact for all those seeking exchange between educational institutions, parents and teachers. Its aim is to strengthen networking among stakeholders in order to ensure a continuous Sorbian educational pathway from early childhood education to school graduation.

Close cooperation, particularly with schools and day-care centres, provides the Domowina with valuable insights into both curricular and extracurricular education and highlights the specific challenges facing the Sorbian people in the field of education. Based on these insights, the Domowina is able to present well-founded arguments and act in a targeted manner in its direct engagement with political actors and administrative authorities.

As a representative of Sorbian interests, the Domowina is regularly consulted by the state parliaments of Brandenburg and Saxony and prepares corresponding statements, recommendations and reports. In this way, it ensures that its positions and proposals receive the necessary consideration and that the framework conditions for Sorbian education can be improved.
