Workshops

Painting Workshops

The annual workshop days, each dedicated to a specific theme related to a selected Sorbian region, have had a very positive impact on the creativity and performance of the individual participants. In addition to professional and methodological guidance from a Sorbian artist, the collaborative work – shared discussions and the final review of the completed pieces – provides strong inspiration for each participating folk artist.

The works created during the workshops are presented in exhibitions, primarily in the foyer of the Serbski dom | House of the Sorbs.

Embroidery and Traditional Costume

In Lusatia, eleven Sorbian traditional costume regions are distinguished. Traditional costume is still worn primarily on special occasions or on stage in the four main regions around Budyšin | Bautzen, Wojerecy | Hoyerswerda, Slepo | Schleife and Chóśebuz | Cottbus.

These costumes are generally made by professional dressmakers.

The Society also offers embroidery courses and projects for the making of individual costume elements under professional guidance.

Ceramics

Twice a year, a weekend workshop with experienced ceramic artists offers the opportunity to design and create large-format vessels, reliefs or sculptures. Participants with little or no prior experience receive professional guidance, gain insight into the historical development of Lusatian ceramic craftsmanship and become familiar with working with clay.

In this way, Sorbian themes and motifs can be expressed artistically.

Woodcraft

This branch of folk art once played a special role in the design of buildings, household items, and courtyards and gardens.

Each autumn, a weekend workshop is held under the guidance of an experienced wood artist or craftsman. The association aims to pass on knowledge of carving techniques and characteristic patterns to future generations.
