Competition for the Most Beautiful Sorbian Easter Egg

The annual competition is open to all those committed to preserving and cultivating this beautiful pre-Easter Sorbian tradition in Lusatia. Entries are evaluated in the four well-known Sorbian techniques – wax batik, scratching and etching techniques, as well as the wax relief technique, which has been used since the 1980s.

An independent jury, composed of different members each year, decides the 1st to 3rd prizes. The prize winners receive a certificate and a cash award provided by the Foundation for the Sorbian People. The Society also presents recognition and sponsorship awards. The prize-winning collections are exhibited, among other places, at the Sorbian Museum in Bautzen.

A separate competition is held for children and young people, with prizes awarded after Easter.
