International Folklore Festival ŁUŽICA – ŁUŽYCA – LAUSITZ

The International Folklore Festival ŁUŽICA – ŁUŽYCA – LAUSITZ is a celebration of encounter that brings together music, dance and traditions from different countries. Over several days, Lusatia is transformed into a place of cultural exchange, where groups from around the world celebrate the diversity and vitality of folk culture.

Three Locations – One Festival Where Cultures Meet

Budyšin | Bautzen – An Energetic Opening

The International Folklore Festival ŁUŽICA – ŁUŽYCA – LAUSITZ begins with a colourful parade through the town centre and a festive opening gala at the German-Sorbian People’s Theatre. Already in the morning, children’s and school groups delight the audience – a vibrant opening that demonstrates how strongly the younger generation is connected to Sorbian culture.

Hochoza | Drachhausen – Music, Dance and Openness

The village of Hochoza is transformed into a vibrant centre of international encounter. In several courtyards and on the church green, groups from different countries present their dances, music and traditions. Visitors experience folk culture at close range, join in the dancing and enjoy regional specialities. Particularly popular is the “Hochoza Special” – folklore in a different format, with music and dancing lasting into the night.

Chrósćicy | Crostwitz – Grand Finale

In Chrósćicy, the festival reaches its climax. In various courtyards, ensembles from around the world present music, dance and traditional crafts. The children’s programme “In the Land of Happy Children” provides a stage for young talents, while the Sorbian National Ensemble inspires audiences with its evening performance.

The festival concludes with a multilingual service, a large festive parade and the finale “Naša Łužica | Our Lusatia” – an emotional affirmation of the cultural diversity of the region.
