History

Over 100 years of Sorbian sporting history: since the 1920s, Serbski Sokoł has united sport, community and Sorbian identity. From its earliest activities to its present-day renewal, it remains a living expression of Sorbian culture in motion.

Heute

Today, Serbski Sokoł z.t. stands for a vibrant Sorbian community fostered through sport. The annual volleyball tournament for the Domowina Cup is a particular highlight, bringing together teams from across Łužyca | Łužica | Lusatia.

The Serbske mustwo | Sorbian representative team also carries this sense of connection beyond the region – through friendly matches, youth development work and participation in the EUROPEADA, the European Football Championship of the autochthonous minorities.

Sport thus becomes a medium that unites people, creates opportunities for encounter and makes Sorbian culture and language visible and tangible in everyday life.

Overview of Former Sokoł Units

Below is a list of former Sokoł units in the order of their establishment. Where known, the respective heads of units (starosts) are also indicated. It should be noted that although the unit in Soritz was founded in spring 1921, its activities effectively began only after its reorganisation in 1925, after which it was incorporated into the Hochkirch unit. Likewise, the unit founded in 1923 in Storcha soon became inactive; in 1929, its members joined the newly established unit in Dreikretscham.
