In the Kamjenc | Kamenz region, numerous sites commemorate prominent Sorbian personalities and their work.

 

The Kamjenc | Kamenz region is home to numerous memorial sites that honour the history, culture and faith of the Sorbs. They commemorate significant personalities, historical events and the strong cultural identity of the people. These places invite reflection and engagement with Sorbian history.

Commemorating the namesake of the Regional Association, an important Sorbian linguist, priest and patron of culture.

Place of Pilgrimage

The Roman Catholic pilgrimage church and the meadow behind it form an important pilgrimage site that reflects the religious and cultural ties of the Sorbs.

Cemetery

The cemetery is distinctive for its uniform white crosses. They symbolise the equality of all people before God and emphasise the universal character of the faith.

The Ćišinski Trail

In Słona Boršć | Salzenforst, a commemorative plaque at the birthplace and a monument on the village square honour Handrij Zejler, the distinguished Sorbian poet and Protestant pastor. Zejler was a co-founder of modern Sorbian literature and played a decisive role in shaping Sorbian poetry.

Monastery of St Marienstern

A special religious centre is the Monastery of St Marienstern in Pančicy-Kukow | Panschwitz-Kuckau, together with the pilgrimage church in Róžant | Rosenthal. The Cistercian convent, inhabited for more than 750 years, is regarded as an important cultural and spiritual centre of the region and, following extensive restoration, now shines once again in its original splendour.

Chrósćicy | Crostwitz

Memorial

The memorial commemorates the fallen Polish soldiers who lost their lives in the final days of the Second World War in the fighting around Chrósćicy | Crostwitz, Hórki | Horka and Pančicy-Kukow | Panschwitz-Kuckau in 1945.

This memorial site is not only a place of remembrance, but also a symbol of the close ties with the neighbouring Slavic region.
